We are looking for a talented, hardworking and detail-oriented individual for our SBA Underwriter I position at our Overland Park, KS office!

The SBA Underwriter is responsible for using knowledge of SBA and conventional lending, as well as critical analytical skills to underwrite, structure and originate commercial loans with particular emphasis on SBA loans. The SBA Underwriter works as part of a team to support the successful growth of the Bank's Government-Guaranteed lending strategy in line with operational and financial objectives.
The SBA Underwriter's responsibilities include:
Completing analysis and presentations, including:
Gathering information, performing analysis, and preparing written proposals for internal and external audiences.
Assisting Loan Officers in the structuring, analysis, review and presentation of SBA loans for approval by the appropriate approval authority.
Working with others to assure that all SBA loans originated by the bank are properly underwritten to bank lending guidelines, as well as the SBA SOP.
Meeting with SBA clients with Loan Officers on a case-by-case basis to discuss new and existing loan relationships with the bank.
Preparing Approval Memos (post approval/pre-loan closing) for all changes to prior approved loan presentations.
Preparing spreadsheets and narrative analysis, including:
Producing clear, relevant and accurate information for others to review using analytical tools, research and education/experience.
Using data to make recommendations and supporting recommendations with clear and factual written and verbal communication.
Preparing SBA servicing memos to be presented to the SBA for approval.
Using independent judgment in order to determine the pertinent information necessary to carry out a complete review of the loan relationship.
Providing credit decisions and recommendations:
May be granted SBA Loan Approval authority based off of experience and knowledge, and may utilize that authority to review and approve SBA loan requests.
Maintaining SBA program expertise through participation in classroom, seminar, online training, and self-guided study by way of membership and affiliation in groups such as the local SBA office, RMA, NAGGL and Coleman.
Completing required compliance training and performing all job functions in compliance with applicable laws, regulations and bank policies and procedures.
Regularly attending loan committee meetings.
Meeting with customers and prospects, providing valuable input and expertise.
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Finance
2+ years SBA underwriting experience
Expertise with financial analysis tools and sophisticated financial spreading software
Proficient knowledge of all SBA loan programs
Thorough understanding of the SBA SOP
General knowledge of GAAP accounting, financial statement preparation, and tax return preparation
Excellent written and oral communication skills
General knowledge of the banking industry including products offered and services provided
Ability to multi-task and handle interruptions, meet deadlines and handle competing priorities
Excellent judgment and decision making skills
Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
Ability to work effectively as part of a team
Must have the ability to be bonded
